Legality of sports betting in the United States

The debate about the legality of sports betting in the United States is raging, and not just in New Jersey. New Jersey passed a bill legalizing sports betting in its casinos and racetracks, but was sued by the NCAA and other professional sports leagues. The lawsuit led to a Supreme Court ruling, which declared PASPA unconstitutional. Now, sports betting is legal in eleven states. Some states have legalized sports betting while others are still mulling whether to do so.

While sports betting is legal in many states, gambling in sports is still a risky endeavor. As with investing, it’s best to wager only money that you’re willing to lose. Until recently, most states only permitted betting on certain games. Today, however, you can bet online or on mobile. However, sports betting is still illegal in some states, so check with your state before wagering on a game.

Legality of sports betting in Colorado

Earlier in this decade, a ballot measure called Proposition DD was introduced in Colorado, which would have legalized sports betting. The bill was defeated by a large margin – roughly 70% opposed the measure. However, it was later passed by the state legislature and the Supreme Court, paving the way for a legal sports betting market. Despite the legal challenges, Colorado is now ready to book its first sports bets.

The state’s legality to allow sports betting has not discouraged many people from doing it. The number of sportsbooks has nearly doubled in its first year, and at this early stage, there are 26 sportsbooks in the state. Colorado has a proud sports culture, and the state’s recognizable Broncos jersey is one of the most recognizable in the NFL. It has produced many great players and teams over the years, so it’s no surprise that sports betting in the state is growing.

Legality of sports betting in Arizona

If you are wondering if you can legally bet on sports in Arizona, you’ve come to the right place. Sports betting has been legal in the state for over a decade. Several companies have opened sportsbooks throughout Arizona, including Hard Rock Digital and WynnBET. In the first half of 2021, Arizona will allow for 20 licensed gambling operators to open retail sportsbooks and two online brands. The state has licensed online sportsbooks from two of the largest commercial sportsbooks in the country.

The HB 2772 bill passes the House of Representatives in March 2021, legalizing sports betting in tribal casinos and at professional sporting venues. In February 2020, Sen. Borrelli and Rep. Pierce make another attempt at legalizing sports betting in Arizona by introducing SB 1525. Meanwhile, in January 2019, Arizona Senate lawmakers introduced SB 1158 and SB 1525, which would allow tribal casinos to offer sports betting. Despite all of the controversy surrounding sports betting in Arizona, the legislation was passed and the sport will launch in Arizona on Sept. 9, 2021.
